Before this purchase I would buy a mop with as many replacement heads as were on the shelf because the mop manufacturers routinely altered the mop meaning you couldn't find replacement heads that would fit. Or the other issue would be that the mechanism on the mop would break and I would be left with a bunch of replacement heads which wouldn't fit on any of the mops still being made. I bet I went through a mop every 6 to 12 months. I have a basket full of replacement heads in the garage which I really should trash at this point as I can't think of any use for them.
While the upfront cost was a big higher, the quality made this a true bargain. I particularly like that my hands never have to touch the dirty mop. The spin mechanism is very heavy duty and continues to work extremely well. When finished I just hold the mop head down and pop the handle off. Cleaning is a breeze. I put the mop head in a mesh bag with my cleaning rags and hang to dry. I will try to post a photo showing the heads after this many years of use. I never got into the habit of using the brush head. One made out of the material used in magic erasers or in those scratch pads with a smily mouth in the center might be of more use to me.
In short I strongly recommend this product, it has stood the test of time and performs just as well as the day I purchased it, over 6 years ago.
Original Review:
I looked at several similar products prior to selecting this one. Primarily I felt that having a metal spinner would result in a product having a longer life as well as having one that I was less likely to break. l am so tired of cheap plastic components on practically everything. They simply do not last and I am not a fan of built in obsolescence!
The product has numerous video tutorials for you to review in assisting you in using the product which I strongly recommend as they are very helpful.
In terms of assembly, I had only issue. The handle has to be screwed together and the instructions do not show the difference between a handle set up to move freely in the bucket when spinning and one locked when using. As the bottom plastic piece has to be unscrewed for the handle to move up and down freely in the bucket and then screwed close when in use, a picture and written instructions would have saved me a lot of time. Your initial thought is that it should be completely closed because you don't typically use an item with a part showing the the ridges left open. I eventually figured it out, but I could have saved half an hour of fooling around had it been better illustrated and written.
The gentleman who shows it in use on a wall/window makes that look easy. It isn't easy, it is difficult to keep the mop pieces in contact with a vertical surface and you don't want to run the plastic edge up and down the window/wall. That won't clean it and may scratch it.
I washed the head after using it for a couple of days and getting it good and dirty. I missed the part about leaving out fabric softener, but after I washing I just threaded through the top of a hanger and left it to line dry, which it did very quickly. Having two heads gives you the ability to move from multiple surfaces which require different cleaners without concern that the product from one surface will still be on the mop when you use it on another. (i.e. I wouldn't want my mop head with a strong disinfecting kitchen floor cleaner to then be used on my finished wood floors.)
The bucket is easy to use, it is not overly heavy even when filled to capacity. There is both a carry handle and a retractable arm that can be used to move the bucket depending on whether you want to lift it or roll it. But be careful when you let go of the retracting arm, it closes quickly and could hurt little fingers if they were in the way.
Over all I am very happy with the product.
There are plenty of reviews that talk about getting it out of the box, putting the handle together etc....so I'll skip that. Suffice it to say, it's easy. Simple. Nothing to it. Takes about 2 minutes - even for me!
Use. First time out I grabbed one of the mopheads and mopped my floor with just plain hot water. UGHHH......what I thought was a clean floor, certainly wasn't (but it is now!). Now, I've always worried about mops retaining dirt, and just spreading dirt around. So, upon seeing the gross, dirty water, I did an experiment. I spun out the mop, emptied the bucket, refilled it with plain, hot water. I then rinsed the mophead in the bucket, and spun it out again. Virtually no dirt came out of the mop, which reassures me that I'm not just spreading dirt around. So, clean floor accomplished I decided that my next experiment would be with a normal days cleaning.
So, next morning, at 8:30am I grab the clean, unused mophead, attach it, and start with the dusting. I dusted the windows, ceiling fans, electronics, TV, shelves, skirting boards, you name it. All was done in no time flat, with very little effort, and virtually no dust spreading around. (a couple of clumps came off the ceiling fan, but the fan was pretty bad, so I forgave it that! LOL). Now, I have these beautiful doors going into our office. Wood, with glass panels. Lovely, but a ROYAL PAIN to clean. I usually struggle to try and get them streak free etc. Well, I used the mop head (no spray or anything) and just rubbed the glass - grandbaby fingerprints disappeared before my eyes. My office doors are now streak free, and lovely. YAY!
So, now next step to cleaning - wet moping. I have a lot of tile - Kitchen, hallway, laundry room, bathrooms........there's a lot. It's all lovely, and doesn't show the dirt (it's stone tile), so it can be misleading sometimes. I grabbed the mop head that I had designated for floors (note, I chose not to sweep first, just to see how well it did), and got to work - again, nothing but hot water. Did the Kitchen, and the hallway. Bear in mind, did the Kitchen last night, but today I attached the scrub brush to scrub the grout between the tiles (a job that normally takes scrubbing on hands and knees and is very difficult for me to do). I then went over it with the mop head once the grout had been scrubbed. The floor looks completely different now! Front lobby, other hallway, and then the bathrooms. Easy peasy. It got around the toilets, and grabbed all the nasty dust, hair and such that tends to collect in bathrooms. I also noticed that it grabbed any, and all bits of dust and debris from along the skirting boards. Something that up to now has taken either sweeping, or getting down on hands and knees. All my skirting boards (and there is a lot of wood in this house) are dirt, dust and debris free. I emptied the bucket down the shower drain. I then used the scrub attachment to scrub the shower tile (we have a large walk-in tiled shower that's about 8 feet from entrance to end). The rinsed it off with clean water. Cleaning that shower has always been a huge pain for me! (literally!)
The floors dried VERY quickly, because the mophead really doesn't feel very wet after you've spun it out. I was done, completely finished, 9:15am. And just to clarify - we live in a house that has 2200 SQ Ft, it's not a small house.
So, there you have it....my verdict....BRILLIANT!
One more point to add. For those of you that might have issues with the mop-head tipping. It's all in the technique. Don't over-reach. If you don't over-reach, and you walk WITH the mop, you will find that it doesn't tip. Using it for just 30 minutes, and I had the technique pretty much down-pat, and with how easy it makes cleaning, it's certainly worth taking the time to get the hang of it!
Finally for those few who have mentioned being worried about "scratching". Um, I don't see how, the base of the mop-head is totally soft. There is nothing sharp, or coarse on the base of the mop-head. It was certainly soft enough for me to not be at all worried about using it on the TV screens and such.
Thank you to the makes for making a product that really does make cleaning easier. No, it's not cheap, but you're getting quality workmanship (the steel spin bucket is brilliant). The wheels work great. Overall, I have no negatives on this, the only small request I would make is to add an extension onto the handle that is used for pulling the bucket, and perhaps a drainage plug would be nice too, for those of us that find lifting/tipping a challenge (although it wasn't that hard for me, and I'm disabled). I love the fact that the handle retracts automatically though.
My two mop heads are now being washed, ready for my next cleaning day......I kinda wish it came with 4 mop heads though, because I could use having a couple more. I just hate to spend even more money! LOL
Update - almost 5 years on....I still LOVE my Mopnado! We've moved overseas (military) and have had hardwood floors for the last couple of years...and my Mopnado handles them perfectly. Best system for dealing with hardwood - while also making sure you have lovely clean floors. I am buying new mop heads because mine are getting old - as an fyi - this is only my first replacement set...and I haven't had any shedding or anything, I just felt like I should probably replace them! The system has proven to be a brilliant system, hasn't broken, hasn't caused me any issues - and as a disabled person I have particular needs. This system works!
